Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Chengdu

Welcome to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province and gateway to panda country. Upon arrival at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, your private driver will transfer you to your centrally located hotel. Depending on your arrival time, enjoy free time to rest or take a leisurely walk around the neighborhood.

Day 2: Giant Panda Breeding Research Base - Kuanzhai Alley

Early morning departure to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, arriving when the pandas are most active during feeding time. Spend the morning observing adult pandas, adorable cubs, and the lesser-known red pandas in their naturalistic habitats. Learn about conservation efforts from your knowledgeable guide.

Afternoon explore Kuanzhai Alley (Wide and Narrow Alleys), a beautifully restored Qing Dynasty neighborhood. Wander through traditional courtyard houses converted into teahouses, boutiques, and restaurants. Experience authentic Sichuan tea culture at a local teahouse.

Day 3: Dujiangyan Irrigation System - Panda Volunteer Program

Travel to Dujiangyan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the world’s oldest functioning irrigation system, built over 2,200 years ago. Marvel at the ingenious engineering that still protects the Chengdu Plain from flooding while providing irrigation to millions of acres of farmland.

Optional upgrade: Participate in the Dujiangyan Panda Volunteer Program, where you can help prepare panda food, clean enclosures, and get closer to these gentle giants than anywhere else in China.

Day 4: Mount Qingcheng

Full day excursion to Mount Qingcheng, the birthplace of Taoism and one of China’s most sacred mountains. Take the cable car to the upper mountain area and hike through ancient forests past Taoist temples shrouded in mist. Visit Tianshi Cave, where the founder of Taoism is said to have preached.

The mountain’s serene atmosphere and lush vegetation make it a perfect escape from city life. Enjoy a vegetarian lunch at a temple restaurant.

Day 5: Jinli Ancient Street - Departure

Visit the adjacent Wuhou Shrine, dedicated to Zhuge Liang, the legendary strategist of the Three Kingdoms period. Transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
